Choosing a date
December to May
Best season
The dry months. Clear skies for beach and garden ceremonies, and the best chance of seeing Mayon from Albay venues. Book popular venues 9 to 12 months ahead.
June to November
Rainy and typhoon season
Bicol sits on the typhoon path. Prices are often lower, but plan an indoor backup and avoid open-air beach receptions.
Holy Week
Usually avoided
Many parishes do not hold weddings during Holy Week, and roads and resorts fill with travelers.
September in Naga
Peñafrancia Festival
Naga City fills up for the feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. Hotels and churches are busy, so book early or pick another month.
Town fiestas
Check the local calendar
Every town has its patron saint feast. Ask the parish office for its schedule before setting your date.
Venues
Churches
Naga, Legazpi, Daraga, Camalig
Old stone churches and the Peñafrancia shrine. Parishes ask for a pre-Cana seminar and documents months in advance.
Beaches
Sorsogon, Caramoan, Bacacay
Sand and sea for intimate ceremonies. Best in the dry season, with travel time for guests.
Gardens and resorts
Albay, Camarines Sur
Open lawns with Mayon views. Many include rooms for the entourage.
Function halls
Naga, Legazpi
Air-conditioned and rain-proof, often with in-house catering. A safe pick for June to November.
Traditions
Pamalaye
The Bicolano formal visit where the groom's family asks the bride's family for her hand, often with food and a talk about wedding plans.
Sponsors (ninong and ninang)
Principal sponsors stand as witnesses and lifelong guides to the couple.
Coins, veil and cord
Secondary sponsors place the arras (13 coins), the veil and the cord during the Catholic rite, symbols of provision and union.
Money dance
Guests pin bills on the couple during the first dance as a gift for their new home.
Bicol food on the table
Expect dishes cooked in coconut milk and chili, like Bicol express and laing, served at the reception.
